If you routinely lose sleep or sleep less than needed, the sleep loss adds up. Those of us who sleep less sometimes nap to catch up. The problem is naps may only provide a short-term boost in alertness and performance. Unfortunately, napping doesn’t provide all of the other benefits of night-time sleep, which ultimately means that you cannot really make up for lost sleep.
